Registering an air quality complaint

We all need to share the same air.  Sometimes, though, we forget that the smoke, dust, odors or other air problems we cause can impact the health and well-being of others.   That's when registering an air quality complaint may be necessary.

Our regulations tell us that an air quality complaint can be about any injury, detriment or annoyance occuring as a result of air contaminants.  This can be - among other things - smoke dust or odors.

For complaints about outdoor smoke, odors or other air quality problems, please contact us during normal business hours (Mon - Fri, 8 am to 4:30pm) at:

(206) 343-8800 or 1-800-552-3565

Please let the customer service representative know that you wish to log a complaint. The representative can explain our complaint response procedures to you. Speaking with a customer service representative will assure that we get the best possible information from you.

You may also communicate information about your problem to us via email by clicking the link at the bottom of this section. An Inspection Department representative will contact you during normal business hours to discuss the problem and potential ways to resolve it.  You can expect a response to your complaint within two workdays.

Please include the following information so that we can properly respond to your needs:
